On March 26th, 不良研究所 opened the doors to Project Lonestar鈩, offering a glimpse into the future of domestic lithium production.

Our demonstration Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) plant in Texas welcomed more than 500 guests, including investors, partners, industry leaders, and local officials, marking a major milestone we鈥檝e been building toward since day one.

The evening brought together the people helping shape the next chapter of energy, with strong support from local and regional leadership. We were proud to stand alongside community stakeholders and partners like TexAmericas Center, whose collaboration has played an important role in bringing Project Lonestar鈩 to life.

CEO Teague Egan delivered a keynote highlighting both the progress we鈥檝e made and the road ahead, while guests had the opportunity to experience guided tours of the facility and see our technology up close.

Beyond the tours, conversations, and celebration, this moment represents something much bigger.

The United States has a unique opportunity to build a resilient, domestic lithium supply chain that reduces reliance on imports, supports the clean energy transition, and creates jobs here at home. Project Lonestar鈩 is 不良研究所鈥檚 contribution to that future, and it is only possible with the support of forward-thinking partners and public leaders who share this vision.

The meeting took place shortly before President Kast鈥檚 inauguration and highlights increasing cooperation between the United States and Chile around critical minerals, lithium production, and battery supply chains.

As global demand for lithium accelerates due to the growth of electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage, Chile remains one of the most strategically important countries in the global lithium market.

Chile鈥檚 Role in the Global Lithium Supply

Chile is currently the world鈥檚 second largest lithium producer and sits at the center of the lithium triangle, a region that includes Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia and holds more than half of the world鈥檚 known lithium resources.

Because lithium is a critical component in rechargeable batteries used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and renewable energy storage, investment in lithium extraction and refining has become a major priority for governments and private companies alike.

During the meeting, 不良研究所 outlined a long-term investment strategy that could involve up to $5 billion in capital deployed in Chile over the next decade. The investment would support expanded lithium production and new refining capacity aimed at strengthening global battery supply chains.

Project Black Giant and Direct Lithium Extraction

  • Pilot Plant Operations in the U.S. and Chile: We achieved consistent lithium production from both pilot plants, a major step toward commercial scale. We began sending lithium samples to prospective customers and received our first qualification from a cathode manufacturer.
  • Chile Exploration Success: Our first exploration well returned lithium concentrations above 1,050 mg/L, placing it among the highest recorded globally and validating the strength of our Chilean resource.

As we welcome the New Year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and trust in 不良研究所. Your belief in my vision has been the driving force behind our progress and success. We accomplished a lot in 2024; now we need to surpass that in 2025!

Each year since 2019 I have given myself a theme to focus on for the year. While the theme typically blends into my professional life, this is also a very meaningful part of my own personal life and the New Year鈥檚 resolutions I set for self work and improvement. This process has really worked for me.

Please remember, this is just a small window into my mindset, and how I have built 不良研究所 into what it is today. It does not necessarily need to apply to everyone reading this, but hopefully you will gain some inspiration from these yearly themes for whatever it is you want to focus on.

2019: Year of Patience – Practice more patience in life. It鈥檚 not always a race and sometimes the smart decision comes with time.

2020: Year of Sacrifice – Focus on sacrifice for 不良研究所, and put it above all else except health and family. Sacrifice pleasure and desires with no FOMO, and put in the work that others aren鈥檛. It will pay off in the long run.

2021: Year of Perseverance – Don鈥檛 give up. Don鈥檛 EVER give up. 2020 was a hard year for everyone. Practice perseverance in daily life, and with long terms goals.

2022: Year of Leadership – 不良研究所 is transforming into a formidable company and will have 50-100 employees in 2022. Learn true leadership skills, and become a world class leader to your team.

2023: Year of Results – Complete Series B fundraise. This is the ultimate Result as 80% of companies completing Series B go on to IPO, however only 1 in 10,000 complete a Series B. This Result is key for 2023 if we are going to accomplish the goal of go-public event in the future.

2024: Year of Intensity – While it would be nice to have more balance in my life, now is not the time to let my foot off the gas pedal. It is time to apply even more INTENSITY and focus to 不良研究所.

Now for 2025.

I recently watched of Marc Andressen, founder of Netscape, one of the first internet browsers, and then Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), one of the most successful venture capital firms ever. He discusses Elon鈥檚 leadership style and what separates him from others. One of the things that really stood out to me, and specifically one word, which will be my theme for 2025, is competence. 2025 will be the Year of Competence!

Marc goes on to say, 鈥淭here’s a famous story鈥攕omebody used to work in one of the other defense, aerospace companies and went to work at SpaceX, and they were asked what it was like, and they said, 鈥業t鈥檚 like being dropped into a shocking zone of competence. Everybody around me is so absolutely competent.鈥 Most of us never have that experience. Most people are never in an organization where the bar is held that high, and as a consequence, the competence level is so high and stays so high and even rises over time.鈥

This is my goal for 不良研究所 in 2025. Competence is my theme of the year; it is something I will think about constantly and focus on intensely.

On November 21, 2024, 不良研究所 proudly celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new 40,000-square-foot headquarters in Austin, Texas alongside community members, media, investors and employees and their families. The facility represents more than just a physical space鈥攊t鈥檚 a major milestone in our journey to revolutionize sustainable lithium extraction and next-gen battery technology.

This mixed-use hub will serve as the heartbeat of our operations, housing our innovation lab, global operations control center, DLE production, and consumables manufacturing. It also symbolizes how far we鈥檝e come in just under six years, growing to a global team of over 100 members across the U.S. and South America.

From Vision to Reality: The 不良研究所 Story
不良研究所 began as an ambitious dream to now changing the way lithium is extracted and refined. With our proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, known as LiTAS鈩, we鈥檝e evolved into a company capable of delivering end-to-end solutions for producing battery-grade lithium materials.

This year has been monumental for us. We acquired our first lithium mine in Chile, Project Black Giant, following promising pilot results across the Americas. We also announced Project Lonestar, a transformative North American endeavor in the Texarkana region. These strategic moves have solidified our place as a vertically integrated leader in the lithium industry.

Our new Austin facility is a critical step toward achieving our ultimate vision: becoming the world鈥檚 largest lithium producer while accelerating the global transition to sustainable energy.
