We are seeking a skilled and experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for various industrial applications. This role requires a strong understanding of control theory, process instrumentation, and system integration.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Work on a team of experienced 不良研究所 engineers on projects focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

 

Design and Development:

  • Design and build E&I and control systems, including panel wiring, PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA development and integration.
  • Develop instrumentation specifications and selection criteria for various projects.
  • Create and review P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and control schematics.
  • Develop data visualization from MySQL databases in platforms such as Ignition, Grafana, or similar.

 

Testing and Commissioning:

  • Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for control systems.
  • Integrate control systems with existing infrastructure and ensure seamless operation.
  • Perform commissioning electrical work including sensor addition, sensor validation, and motor wiring.
  • Perform general system commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting.

 

Project Management:

  • Prepare project documentation, including control narratives, functional specifications, and user manuals.
  • Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure all instrumentation and control designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in control technology and best practices.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, OPTO22, Schneider, or Mitsubishi) PLC/HMI systems.
  • Strong understanding of process instrumentation, control theory, and automation systems.
  • Experience with Ignition software including server commissioning, PLC communication, tag historian, and HMI design.
  • Experience with OPC UA and/or Modbus communication protocols
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • 25% travel is required

 

Certifications:

  • NFPA 70E electrical training is required.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and advanced control strategies.
  • Familiarity with Linux based server commissioning
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, and NFPA.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB for control applications.
  • Certification in control systems or instrumentation (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) is a plus.

The Mechanical Engineer will own key process equipment packages, work directly with vendors and engineering firms, and help optimize two demonstration plants to achieve target productivity, operability, and cost-effective commercial design. This role bridges pilot and demonstration operations with commercial engineering.

Key Responsibilities

鈥 Lead mechanical engineering activities for pilot, demonstration, and early commercial lithium separation systems, with responsibility for one or more critical equipment packages.

鈥 Translate process development and process design package (PDP/PDS) requirements into practical, reliable, and cost-effective equipment and plant designs.

鈥 Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, utility requirements, hydraulic calculations, and equipment data sheets.

鈥 Collaborate with process engineers, operations personnel, vendors, construction partners, and external engineering firms to support scale-up from demonstration to commercialization.

鈥 Support optimization, modification, troubleshooting, and ramp-up of two demonstration plants.

 

Commercial Engineering Scope

鈥 Own vendor engagement for major process equipment packages such as filtration, drying, evaporation, separation, micronizing, thickening, pumps, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, and water treatment systems.

鈥 Prepare or support technical bid packages, review vendor proposals, compare technical options, and drive equipment selection based on performance, operability, maintainability, and total installed cost.

鈥 Review and revise vendor mechanical designs, P&IDs, specifications, and expected performance to align with 不良研究所 process requirements and simplify the commercial plant design where possible.

鈥 Work closely with external engineering firms on equipment integration, plot plans, plant layout, utilities, and interdisciplinary design coordination.

鈥 Support design reviews, HAZOP/operability discussions, and field issue resolution during engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

鈥 Travel to vendor, fabricator, engineering firm, or project sites as needed during detailed engineering and equipment delivery.

 

Demonstration Plant Scope

鈥 Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities for two demonstration projects.

鈥 Identify bottlenecks in equipment, key components, and flow systems; propose and implement modifications that improve capacity, reliability, and ease of operation.

鈥 Collect and interpret operating data to recommend design improvements for the next scale of deployment.

鈥 Partner with operators and technicians to improve equipment maintainability, spare parts planning, and standard operating practices.

 

Required Qualifications

鈥 Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

鈥 3-5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in chemical processing, minerals processing, water treatment, or a similar industrial environment.

鈥 Experience developing, reviewing, and checking PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, general arrangement drawings, and vendor packages.

鈥 Working knowledge of industrial equipment including piping systems, valves (manual, control, and relief), pumps, pressure vessels, filters, coalescers, columns, evaporators, tanks, heat exchangers, and reactors.

鈥 Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.

鈥 Knowledge of applicable design codes and standards such as ASME, DIN/EN, and related regulatory requirements.

鈥 Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment, communicate effectively with vendors, and work across process, operations, and project teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Work Environment

Job Description

Director of Adsorption Processes will be responsible for optimizing and developing 不良研究所鈥檚 adsorption process. The role involves understanding the process design synergies between adsorption and solvent extraction and any other downstream system that provides a recycle to adsorption. Knowledge in lithium sorption and desorption ideal. Must be able to develop a project plan that matches with the corporate and business objectives of 不良研究所. This is not a R&D role.

The candidate must have direct experience with a process intensification commercial success. Candidates will be required to develop innovative process designs for direct lithium extraction. Expert understanding of the chemical and physical systems for adsorption are mandatory. The successful candidate will supervise all aspects of the adsorption process and will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to the team. This position is only for self-motivated, thorough, diligent, and very organized technologists with excellent project management skills and knows how to be a great team member.


Responsibilities

You will work directly with the CTO. Your workday will involve working across multidisciplinary and project execution teams. You will be responsible for the development of a project execution plan with the primary objective of designing an adsorption process that economically extracts lithium.

Engineering and laboratory responsibilities
Oversee and delegate tasks associated with project plan objectives
Organize and monitor daily activity of engineering design and laboratory work
Lab Administration
Ensure all test work is carried out safely and correctly
Effectively provide leadership and mentorship with all technicians and engineers: direct and indirect reports
Process Design
Execute in optimizing the adsorption process design
Leverage process intensification skills to innovate
Report findings and help direct the next steps
Collaborate with other managers, directors, and upper management as needed to accelerate achieving milestones
Projects
Provide guidance for the engineering and lab teams with test work needed to develop and test new adsorption process technologies
Guide technicians and engineers in work priority
Develop a rapid testing process that will assist in qualifying candidate customers for commercialization opportunities

Basic Qualifications

Master or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering.
Over 10 years of experience with an emphasis on packed column design and novel processes for material handling of ion exchange resins and/or adsorbent materials
Over 7 years with Detailed Engineering Design for Commercial Chemical Plants
Experience with synthesis and commercial development of adsorbents especially lithium sorbents is a plus
Proven leader in process engineering design with advanced knowledge of adsorption and ion exchange mechanisms
Expert in the commercial development of adsorption processes
Excellent Relationship skills 鈥
Requires integrated work with the project development team
Must work closely with the entire lab, engineering, and project execution teams
Must be able to communicate with internal and external customers
Self-directed and self-motivated
Proficient computer skills 鈥 specifically Microsoft Office, Excel and Lotus Notes databases

Role Description

10+ years of experience working with EHS compliance and management systems within manufacturing operations.

Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Risk assessment, equipment and process safety, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance initiatives, and incident root cause analysis.

Job Description

Process Engineer will translate 不良研究所鈥檚 separation advances into technologies such as electrodialysis, solvent extraction, ion adsorption, and ion exchange scaling from bench to pilot and demonstration scale leading to commercialization. The role will lead a team responsible for flowsheet design, simulations, equipment sizing, and specifications, and developing PFDs, PIDs, HAZID, and HAZOPs. The position will be responsible for designing, building, and operating pilot and demonstration plants with inputs from equipment vendors and engineering and play a lead role in technology transfer to commercialization.

Responsibilities

Work on a team of experienced 不良研究所 scientists in research and development focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

Lead 不良研究所 novel lithium extraction materials and technologies scale-up to pilot, demonstration, and commercial scale.
Manage and mentor engineering staff in areas of materials production and process development in areas of membrane production and separation, electrodialysis, ion exchange/adsorption and solvent extraction.
Track and communicate the status of laboratory projects to design, production, and materials engineers.
Evaluate the state of the industry techniques and equipment for future lab and pilot testing capabilities.
Convert technical information from laboratory to pilot and commercial process systems.
Coordinate testing and piloting with contract laboratories.
Interface with equipment vendors to procure equipment to specifications.
Engage with EPC contractors to deliver demonstration and commercial plants.
Oversee development and implementation process plants at all scales.
Assess competitive technologies and their applications.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor鈥檚 degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Minerals Engineering)
Minimum 5 years of work experience in process development, piloting, scale-up, and operations.
Understands integrating technology into overall process design.
Experience with typical hydrometallurgical unit operations, specifically membrane separation, ion exchange, and solvent extraction technologies.
Experienced with project development, management, and delivery.

Additional Requirements

Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment.
Understanding of techniques applicable for lithium extraction, separation, recovery, and refining.
General knowledge of the water desalination, membrane, energy storage, and lithium industries.
Strong knowledge of unit operation functionality including understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various unit operations and their limitations.
Conducting engineering calculations, mass and energy balances, process modeling, and process equipment design.
Strong capital cost and operating cost knowledge of relevant processes, equipment, and unit operations.
Integrating safety in design, Process Safety, HAZOP, and HAZID.
Effective communication skills as related to the board, partners, and investors including presentation skills at meetings and conferences.

Required Qualifications
