Job Description: 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for various industrial applications. This role requires a strong understanding of control theory, process instrumentation, and system integration.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Work on a team of experienced ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù engineers on projects focused on disruptive materials and engineering systems to fundamentally transform scientific aspects of the energy industry including:

 

Design and Development:

  • Design and build E&I and control systems, including panel wiring, PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA development and integration.
  • Develop instrumentation specifications and selection criteria for various projects.
  • Create and review P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and control schematics.
  • Develop data visualization from MySQL databases in platforms such as Ignition, Grafana, or similar.

 

Testing and Commissioning:

  • Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for control systems.
  • Integrate control systems with existing infrastructure and ensure seamless operation.
  • Perform commissioning electrical work including sensor addition, sensor validation, and motor wiring.
  • Perform general system commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting.

 

Project Management:

  • Prepare project documentation, including control narratives, functional specifications, and user manuals.
  • Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure all instrumentation and control designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in control technology and best practices.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, OPTO22, Schneider, or Mitsubishi) PLC/HMI systems.
  • Strong understanding of process instrumentation, control theory, and automation systems.
  • Experience with Ignition software including server commissioning, PLC communication, tag historian, and HMI design.
  • Experience with OPC UA and/or Modbus communication protocols
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • 25% travel is required

 

Certifications:

  • NFPA 70E electrical training is required.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and advanced control strategies.
  • Familiarity with Linux based server commissioning
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, and NFPA.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB for control applications.
  • Certification in control systems or instrumentation (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) is a plus.

The Mechanical Engineer will own key process equipment packages, work directly with vendors and engineering firms, and help optimize two demonstration plants to achieve target productivity, operability, and cost-effective commercial design. This role bridges pilot and demonstration operations with commercial engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities for pilot, demonstration, and early commercial lithium separation systems, with responsibility for one or more critical equipment packages.

• Translate process development and process design package (PDP/PDS) requirements into practical, reliable, and cost-effective equipment and plant designs.

• Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, utility requirements, hydraulic calculations, and equipment data sheets.

• Collaborate with process engineers, operations personnel, vendors, construction partners, and external engineering firms to support scale-up from demonstration to commercialization.

• Support optimization, modification, troubleshooting, and ramp-up of two demonstration plants.

 

Commercial Engineering Scope

• Own vendor engagement for major process equipment packages such as filtration, drying, evaporation, separation, micronizing, thickening, pumps, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, and water treatment systems.

• Prepare or support technical bid packages, review vendor proposals, compare technical options, and drive equipment selection based on performance, operability, maintainability, and total installed cost.

• Review and revise vendor mechanical designs, P&IDs, specifications, and expected performance to align with ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù process requirements and simplify the commercial plant design where possible.

• Work closely with external engineering firms on equipment integration, plot plans, plant layout, utilities, and interdisciplinary design coordination.

• Support design reviews, HAZOP/operability discussions, and field issue resolution during engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

• Travel to vendor, fabricator, engineering firm, or project sites as needed during detailed engineering and equipment delivery.

 

Demonstration Plant Scope

• Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities for two demonstration projects.

• Identify bottlenecks in equipment, key components, and flow systems; propose and implement modifications that improve capacity, reliability, and ease of operation.

• Collect and interpret operating data to recommend design improvements for the next scale of deployment.

• Partner with operators and technicians to improve equipment maintainability, spare parts planning, and standard operating practices.

 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

• 3-5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in chemical processing, minerals processing, water treatment, or a similar industrial environment.

• Experience developing, reviewing, and checking PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, general arrangement drawings, and vendor packages.

• Working knowledge of industrial equipment including piping systems, valves (manual, control, and relief), pumps, pressure vessels, filters, coalescers, columns, evaporators, tanks, heat exchangers, and reactors.

• Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.

• Knowledge of applicable design codes and standards such as ASME, DIN/EN, and related regulatory requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment, communicate effectively with vendors, and work across process, operations, and project teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting pilot plants, demonstration plants, or first-of-a-kind process scale-up projects.

• Experience working directly with fabrication shops, OEMs, EPC/EPCM firms, or construction contractors.

• Spanish language proficiency.

 

Success in This Role

• Drive critical equipment packages from concept through vendor selection, design review, fabrication support, and commissioning.

• Help demonstration plants achieve target production rates and stable operation.

• Contribute to a simpler, more robust, and more cost-effective commercial plant design.

 

Work Environment

This position is based in Austin, Texas. Travel to vendor facilities, engineering partners, project sites, and international locations in South America may be required – up to 25% travel.

The Role

Demonstration Plant Operations

The position will work under a shift lead and work in a team of 8 people. Training will be included.

 

Administration

Instrument readouts are recorded and reported to a supervisor. The position requires showing up on time for the shift and notifying a supervisor if they are unable to make their shift. Working night shifts is available; individuals may need to fill in a rare night shift for a colleague.

  • Willingness to follow safety rules and conduct work in a safe manner

  • Must be capable of standing throughout the working day

Role Overview
The Sales Lead, Lithium Offtake will be responsible for developing and closing commercial agreements for lithium products and technology offerings.   • Drive Commercial Agreements: Lead customer engagement to secure long-term offtake agreements for lithium products aligned with capacity ramp-up plans.
  • Support Strategic Prepayments: Negotiate financial terms including potential prepayment structures to support project development and commercial momentum.
  • Advance Technology Licensing: Collaborate across technical and legal teams to structure licensing agreements for proprietary lithium extraction technologies.
  • Coordinate Customer Qualification: Oversee sample deliveries and manage technical-commercial alignment with customers for product validation and qualification.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the global battery materials value chain, including OEMs, cathode/anode makers, and raw material processors.
  • Executive presence with the ability to represent the company with customers, partners, and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams across legal, finance, operations, and R&D to bring deals to execution.
  • Global market exposure and ability to manage customer relationships across multiple regions and cultures.

The Commercial Counsel will support the senior leadership team, and the Sales, Engineering and Procurement departments by providing legal advice related to a broad range of commercial contracts for procurement and sales, and may work with the outside counsel on matters related thereto. Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for

Commercial Agreements

Drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements (confidentiality, master service agreements, change orders, T&Cs, customer offtake agreements, technology licensing agreements).

Ensuring accurate documentation and tracking of contractual terms and risk exposure.

Managing outside counsel relationships to ensure access to high-quality, cost-effective subject matter expertise and specialized support.

Assisting with vendor KYC and compliance matters.

Internal and External Partnerships

Partnering closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement and Executive leadership to provide counsel on commercial contracts with customers, vendors, and partners. Develop template forms and playbooks for commercial transactions.

Train and mentor internal stakeholders on legal and negotiation best practices to improve contract turnaround.

Responding promptly to legal questions and requests from various stakeholders in the business.

Assisting with special projects as needed, including projects focused on the development, implementation and improvement of contracting workflows and contract lifecycle management.

Compliance

Tracking regulatory compliance and staying up to date on trends affecting the energy industry, especially as it pertains to lithium. Experience in the energy industry is a plus!

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Law degree (JD) or LL.M from U.S. accredited law school and active, good standing membership in at least one U.S. State bar.
  • 2 years or more of experience in a law firm.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
